Lockdown: Police bans tricycle in Kumasi

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has banned the operations of all motorised tricycles also known as ‘Mahama Camboo or Pragia’ in the lockdown zones.

According to the Police it will enforce the COVID – 19 partial lockdown in some part of   Ashanti Region following complains that some residents are not abiding by the directive from the president.

The Ashanti Regional Police Public Relations Officer ASP Godwin Ahianyo speaking on Ashh FM’s National Agenda cautioned the residents to stay at home and observed the executive order.

ASP Ahianyo sounded a warning to tricycle operators (pragia) and motor riders to stop onboarding passengers.

Godwin Ahianyo told OdefourQwasi Kay that, most operators of the tricycles onboard passengers without observing the social distance directive.

He disclosed that a joint police and military deployment are moving around the zonal areas to arrest anyone who defies the directive.

‘’Anyone who will be arrested will be put before the special court unit for prosecution’’ he maintained

He indicated that the special courts are arranged to ensure that culprits are prosecuted and fined to serve as deterrent to recalcitrant citizenries.

ASP Ahianyo further commended the Trotro and Taxi drivers for reducing the number of passengers on board to observe social distancing even though he couldn’t tell whether the case was because of the reduced number of people requiring commuting or an adherence to the directive.
